You stayed too long in the woods, and now the sun is amost set and the darkness is creeping in.

You’re trying to find your way home, but in the fading light everything looks eerie and unfamiliar. There’s an unsettling silence - the birds have ceased their singing - and a twig snapping underfoot makes you jump.

As you glance up, startled, you see the green eyes gleaming from the undergrowth….

Welcome to the Spooky Woods!

Construction

This cardigan is worked top down, as follows:

  • you’ll start with a turned picot neckline, worked flat and then joined to knit in the round
  • the upper yoke is knit in one shade with regular increases
  • the lower yoke is knit using stranded colourwork with raglan increases
  • then you divide for body and sleeves
  • you’ll knit the body in the round until you reach the picot-turned hem, which is finished flat
  • you’ll knit both sleeves in the round to the wrist, then gather them and finish with a picot turned cuff
  • you’ll then steek the cardigan opening, add icord buttonbands and sew down the turned picot collar, hem and cuffs

The colourwork in this design is on the spicy side, but it's also very forgiving. I've tried to make the knitting as painless as possible by providing a separate set of charts for each of the fifteen sizes. Longer stretches of stitches are also numbered, so you don't need to do the counting yourself.

Yarn

Choose a yarn that's suitable for steeking and for colourwork. A non-superwash wool yarn is ideal.

I've used a custom-dyed yarn for this - you can pick up a kit or yarn pack here.
