Pattern details - Catvent 2025

Shawls and wraps

The Catvent Wrap

A lovely long wrap of stripes. It’s about 65cm wide (you can adjust this downwards to make a scarf/ upwards to make a blanket/ tent) and nearly three metres long (you can also adjust this). Wear it elegantly shoulder-draped, or cocooned around you like a giant scarf, or - just leave it out for your cat to sit on.

It’s a fairly simple knit - there are no shifting stitch counts to worry about, and the panels are all fairly straightforward - there’s a bit of simple colourwork, a bit of very gentle yarnover-y lace and some simple texture. I found that there was enough happening to keep me interested, but at no point did I have to do too much swearing - although some knitters have sworn quite a lot at the colourwork-worked-flat.

It’s quite big knit - with probably as much knitting as a 4ply cardigan or sweater.

Yarn requirements

You’ll need:

  • 25 4ply mini-skeins (you’ll use 55m - 65m of each shade)
  • 100g of a contrast colour for the little between-stripe sections and the colourwork
  • 50gr of a contrast colour for the edges

Slip

Slip’s a playful and enjoyable knit that uses slip stitches in different ways.

If you're knitting it from a gradient you'll probably want to rearrange the yarn - you don’t want to be sliding seamlessly through the rainbow because all the detail will disappear. I worked mine from a gradient, but alternated from the beginning and midpoint of the gradient - so, day 1, day 13, day 2, day 14 and so on.

Yarn requirements

The pattern has options for both DK and 4ply yarn, and uses 24 20gr mini-skeins.

You’ll have some leftovers from the 4ply version of this, and some scrappy bits from the DK.

Catventure

A gentle sort of shawl, with easy lace and textured stitches, It’s an asymmetric triangle.

Yarn requirements

The pattern has options for both DK and 4ply yarn, and uses 12 x 20gr mini-skeins.

You shouldn’t have much in the way of leftovers.

You could also use scraps, just bringing in new shades wherever the old shade rus out.

Sweater/ cardigans

The Toebean Top - new this year!

The toebean top is a top down sweater/ cardigan with a fitted circular yoke and a swooshy body and sleeves.

Yarn requirements

You’ll need:

  • 2 x 100gr/ 400m skeins of a contrast colour (this is used for the yoke, cuffs and hem)
  • 25 miniskeins (20gr/ 80m) of 4ply yarn

You will have some leftovers, but they’ll vary depending on size.

The Catvent Sweater

A colourwork sweater, with drop shoulders, four different neck options, three length options, and directions for both steeked and no-steeking options. It's knit in DK weight yarn, so it knits up pretty quickly, and the colourwork is pretty simple.

Yarn requirements

You'll need:

  • 24 x 20gr DK-weight mini-skeins
  • 200gr contrasting yarn for the colourwork
  • 200gr more for the sleeves

Leftovers vary depending on the size/ options you choose.

The Catty Carousel Cardigan

This is a 4ply cardigan, with a lovely catty colourwork yoke, little colourwork details on the collar/ cuffs/ hem, optional waist shaping, and details for turning it into a sweater or knitting it without steeking.

Yarn requirements

You'll need:

  • a set of 24 mini-skeins (there are various ways to divide them up suggested in the pattern)
  • one skein of 4ply (100gr/ 400m) contrast for the colourwork
  • one skein of 4ply (100gr/ 400m) contrast for the colourwork for the hem, cuffs and collar

Leftovers vary depending on the size/ options you choose.

Blankets

Kaleidocatty

This is a blanket made of colourwork hexagons. It's epic, but it's also modular so you can just work on a hexie here and there.

The pattern has suggestions for other things to make with your hexies, too, in case you get bored before getting them all done, and it's got some blank charts in case you'd like to sketch your own hexies

Yarn requirements

You'll need:

  • 25 x 20gr DK-weight mini-skeins for the hexies
  • 200gr contrasting yarn for the colourwork
  • 200gr more for the border.

You shouldn’t have much leftovers at all.

Smaller knits and scrap-eaters

Cat Bunting - new this year

Squishy garterstitch catfaces to cattify your space. There are two sizes of bunting (big bunt and baby bunt).

Yarn requirements

The big catfaces use 80m of DK weight yarn, and the smaller ones use 40m.

The Catvent Cowl

A fairly quick, fun knit, with a mix of colourwork and textured stitches.

Yarn requirements

It uses 24 shades, and just under 10gr of each.

Polka Scraps

A little collection with a hat, cowl, mitts and mittens that use up scraps of yarn. The patterns are in DK yarn - or 4ply held double - and are easy, quick knits designed to use up your advent scraps.

The Catvent Catsock

A catsock that works well with scraps, and has both DK and 4ply versions. It’s a fun, quick knit, and the pattern’s divided up into twenty four parts (well, twelve parts for each sock, and you do two socks).

The DK version makes for a really good cosy house-sock.
