Take two very different yarns, add a simple slip-stitch stripe pattern, mix gently with your needles.... and you’ve knit the moon! Follow The Moon is a very knittable shawl, perfect for relaxing with, and the 3/4-pi shaping means it’s also a very wearable shawl.
Choosing yarn:
Yarn A: 100gr/ 400 metres of a 4-ply yarn.
Yarn B: 50gr/ 300 metres of a light and fluffy lace-weight yarn.
You want a contrast in texture between the two yarns. Look for something strong and lustrous for yarn A - a silk or silk-blend yarn is perfect, but tencel or mercerised cotton may also work well. For yarn B, a fluffy lace- weight yarn - mohair or brushed alpaca.
For yarn A I used Caitin Silk (100% silk) for yarn A, and Caitin Kitten (68% suri alpaca, 32% silk) for yarn B, both in the Starless Sky colourway.
Yarn A does most of the heavy-lifting in this shawl, so choose a yarn that doesn’t snap easily. Yarn B can be more fragile - although, obviously, it doesn’t need to be.
