Colourwork and steeking workshop - 13th April 2019
This workshop will help you get to grips with colourwork, and give you the confidence to steek your knitting.
In the morning session we'll cover
- Choosing yarns and colours for colourwork
- Various techniques for holding two strands as you work
- Keeping tangles and twists under control
- Managing your tension
- Working with long floats and wrapping yarn
In the afternoon session, we'll cover
- Choosing a good yarn for steeking
- Reinforcing your steek
- Snipping the knitting!
- Finishing off a steeked edge
If you prefer, you can attend just the morning or the afternoon session
If you're doing the full day, yarn is provided to work your colourwork swatches. You can choose to steek these in the afternoon, or bring along some swatches to steek, or both. If you're coming for just the afternoon session you'll need to bring a couple of swatches to steek - details will be provided. You'll also need to bring knitting needles, a crochet hook and a small, sharp scissors.
There'll be plenty of biscuits and all the tea/ coffee you can drink. Lunch isn't included, but we can take a little expedition to a local covered market with several great local food businesses. (Veggie/ vegan/ gluten-free/ dairy-free all catered for)
My studio is in Gravesend, which is 22 minutes by train from St Pancras in London It's a ten minute walk from the station. If you're driving, it's just off the A2. Full directions will be sent out ahead of time.
The morning workshop will run from 10am - 1pm, and the afternoon from 2pm - 5pm, with a break for lunch.
